THE INSANE CLOTHING INTERVIEW

So for this assignment, I had to interview a small business owner.

But instead of picking someone random, I chose my friend Kellan!! The owner of The Insane Clothing. And honestly… I thought this would be perfect content for my blog!

Kellan runs a 1of1 clothing brand where everything is original. No copies, no repeats. Just them, their ideas, and whatever they feel like creating. They work out of their own space at their amazing mammas house, making clothes, art, and some bomb stickers.

And the craziest part? They do everything themselves.

Literally everything…

When I asked how many employees they had, they said “1… me.”

And that really sums it up.

They create, market, learn new skills, build their website, figure out problems, and still keep going. That’s something I really respect because it’s not easy doing everything on your own.

One thing they said that really stuck with me was that creativity is the biggest barrier.

Not money. Not connections. Creativity.

You have to make something that’s actually different and true to you. And that’s where a lot of people struggle.. especially in the beginning. It made me realize how important it is to not just follow trends, but to really create from your own ideas.

Homie also described the business as a “slow burn to a big boom.”

And yeah… that part hit. slow burn to a big boom

I like that…

Big boom

Because that’s exactly what it feels like sometimes. You’re putting in all this work, learning, creating, showing up and it doesn’t always pay off right away. The money isn’t consistent, growth can feel slow, and you really have to trust the process.

Another thing that stood out to me was their mindset.

They said to make art for yourself first.

Not for other people. Not for trends. Not for what you think will sell.

For you.

And honestly, the way they explained it stuck with me so much it felt like poetry:

make it for you first

not for them

not for what you think will sell

not for what’s a trend

for you

it’s a slow burn

before the boom

and in that time

you either stop

or you may keep it going

create something different

something real

something that doesn’t fit in a just a regular box

if it’s not you

people will feel

And I feel like that’s where the real authenticity comes from. People can tell when something is forced versus when it’s real. That’s what makes people connect to what you’re doing.

This interview felt even more personal to me because our businesses are really similar.

In a way, I look at them like a mentor. Not in a formal way, but through watching, learning, and seeing what’s possible. It shows me that what I’m working toward is real, and that I can get there too.

So it didn’t feel like I was just interviewing someone..it felt like I was talking to someone who understands exactly what this journey feels like.

The long nights, the learning curves, the moments where you question everything, and then the moments where it all makes sense again.

It reminded me that there’s no perfect path to this.

You don’t have to have everything figured out.

You just have to start, stay consistent, and stay real.

Kellan is building something that’s completely theirs. No box, no limits, just authenticity.

And that’s exactly the energy I want to keep bringing into Nie’s Closet too.

This wasn’t just an interview.

It was confirmation.
